A Colorful Creature

Italian Wall Lizards are perhaps best known for their beautiful coloration, which can differ based on both sex and geographical location. Breeding males are often a brilliant green or blue, with females brown or olive-green. It serves as a display to woo mates and threaten rivals.

A Nimble Hunter

Carnivorous, feeding on a range of insects, spiders and other small invertebrates. They are quick hunters, using those maneuvers on a surprisingly fast animal to catch their prey with breakneck speed. These newt have long forked tongues that are used to catch and taste their prey.

A Hardy Survivor

Italian Wall Lizards are specialized to the Mediterranean climate, typified by hot, dry summers and mild wet winters. It is capable to survive in extreme weather conditions of rocky cliffs, and arid landscapes. Their body temperature regulation, by basking and seeking shade in difficult habitats has made it one of the most successful lizards.

A Beneficial Species

Italian Wall Lizards are useful as they could control insects popukation. They also help to preserve a sustainable ecosystem by consuming numerous insect pests. They provide food for many predators including birds, snakes and larger lizards.

Conservation Concerns

In contrast, Italian Wall Lizards are not endangered per se but suffer from habitat loss and degradation, pollutants in the environment and introduced non-native vegetation. In order to guard these lizards, steps should be taken in terms of habitat conservation and diminishing the use of pesticides so as to generate awareness regarding their ecological significance.
